Replacement vs New Construction
How the window goes in matters as much as the window itself.
Replacement (Insert / Pocket)
The existing frame stays in place — the new window slides into the old opening. Interior and exterior trim are undisturbed, siding is untouched, and drywall stays intact. This is the fastest, cleanest install and is right for the vast majority of replacement projects when the existing frame is sound.

New Construction (Full-Frame)
The entire window is removed down to the rough opening — frame, trim, and nailing fin. The new window is installed with a nailing fin, flashed, and re-trimmed. This is the correct method when the existing frame is damaged, when you're changing window size, or during a re-siding project.

What makes a window energy efficient
The glass package matters more than the brand name on the sticker.
Low-E Coating
A microscopically thin metallic layer that reflects infrared heat — keeping warmth in during winter and out during summer. Standard on virtually all modern quality windows.
Argon / Krypton Gas Fill
Inert gases between panes insulate far better than plain air. Argon is standard on double-pane; krypton is used in triple-pane where the gap is narrower.
Double vs Triple Pane
Double-pane is the modern baseline. Triple-pane adds ~20–30% more insulation and reduces sound transmission — worth it in extreme climates or noisy locations.
Warm-Edge Spacers
The material separating the panes matters. Foam and stainless spacers reduce heat transfer at the edge — where condensation typically forms first.
